Bouncing cosmologies in geometries with positively curved spatial sections

Article history: Received 5 April 2016 Accepted 20 July 2016 Available online 22 July 2016 Editor: M. Trodden Background bouncing cosmologies, driven by a single scalar field, having a quasi-matter domination period during the contracting phase, i.e., depicting the so-called Matter Bounce Scenario, are reconstructed for cosmologies with spatial positive curvature. These cosmologies lead to a ne...

Nonsingular multidimensional cosmologies with Lobachevsky spatial sections

Examples of nonsingular cosmological models are presented on the basis of exact solutions to multidimensional gravity equations. These examples involve pure imaginary scalar fields, or, in other terms, “phantom” fields with an unusual sign of the kinetic term in the Lagrangian. We show that, with such fields, hyperbolic nonsingular models with a cosmological bounce (unlike spherical and spatial...

On the "Causality argument" in bouncing cosmologies.

We exhibit a situation in which cosmological perturbations of astrophysical relevance propagating through a bounce are affected in a scale-dependent way. Involving only the evolution of a scalar field in a closed universe described by general relativity, the model is consistent with causality. Such a specific counterexample leads to the conclusion that imposing causality is not sufficient to de...

Bouncing Cosmologies in Brans-Dicke Theory

In this paper it is shown that in Brans-Dicke (BD) theory, if one considers a non-minimal coupling between the matter and scalar field, it can give rise to a bouncing universe (i.e. an expanding universe preceded by a contracting universe). Two examples of such universes have been considered in a spatially flat FRW universe and their physical properties have been studied.
